Chiang Mai, Thailand

After three nights in Laos, I continued on to Chiang Mai, for some Labor Day fun with friends in northern Thailand. On Saturday, we went whitewater rafting (I only panicked once), and took it easy the rest of the time, catching up, trading work stories, and visiting local sites: the mountaintop temple Doi Suthep, the royal family's getaway--BhuBing Palace and botanical gardens, and the ancient city wall that tried to keep invaders out of this former capital of the kingdom of Lanna.
